The regular Monthly Meeting of the Comox Valley Naturalists Society will be held March 18, 2007 at 7:00 pm at the Florence Filberg Centre, 411 Anderton Avenue, Courtenay. The featured speaker will be Dr. Hans Boerger, who will introduce us to the diverse groups of invertebrates that live in ponds and make a case for their protection.

Dr. Boerger has been interested in ponds since a youngster in Germany. He studied the ecology of pond snails at the University of Waterloo, and the ecology of midges at the University of Alberta. He continued puddling around ponds while teaching at the University of Calgary and working as research scientist for Syncrude Canada Ltd. in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Five years ago, he and his wife Carol moved to Parksville where he continues to muck around Vancouver Island wetlands.
