Film: Digging Water
The 2008 David Thompson Canoe Brigade

The regular monthly meeting of the Comox Valley Naturalists Society will be held March 15, 2009, at 7:00 pm at the Florence Filberg Centre, 411 Anderton Avenue, Courtenay. The film “Digging Water”, of the 2008 David Thompson Canoe Brigade’s 3600 km. trip following the explorer’s route will be featured. The film will precede our regular meeting. The general public is welcome.

Steve Flawith, Michel Gauthier and Chris Kissinger, all from the wilds of Comox, joined three hundred other paddlers at Rocky Mountain House, Alberta to trace the route of the explorer David Thompson to Thunder Bay Ontario. These three were among the many that completed the entire route, and we are honoured that they will share this film of the Brigade with us.

The film covers a route which was the wet equivalent of the Trans Canada Highway for about 100 years during the early development of Canada. The route is 3600 km long, and passes through many interesting locations, mostly in northern boreal areas. The film encompasses a wide range of endurance, scenery, and cultures. The film quality is excellent, and should make us all proud both of where our Country has come from, and what it has accomplished. Well done, all 300 of you.

Please come and join us to become better informed, and how you can help CVNS provide education and protection for B.C.’s natural environment.
