March 25, 2005:
Over a dozen members of the Comox Valley Naturalists Society were working in the Courtenay Riverway Park on Good Friday, removing invasive broom and blackberry. The Comox Valley Naturalists are stewards of the park. Over the years the society has planted native trees, shrubs, and flowers, as well as controlling invasive species. Regular broom and bramble removal helps the Society in their aim to establish a native Garry oak ecosystem in the park. March 14, 2005: Plaque Honours Melda Buchanan
A commemorative plaque was unveiled by Ruth Masters at Seal Bay Regional Park in honour of Melda Buchanan's dedication to environmental causes. From saving the lands at Seal Bay, to active participation in environmental protest, to ensuring the survival of every creature she encountered, Melda was there for her beloved Comox Valley, for British Columbia, for the world.
